Even though it's suited towards lower print volumes, the DTC1250e does not compromise on print quality. From the first card to the last, the printer will print vibrant colours, photo-like images and crisp text.
Both the printer unit and the print head have a manufacturer three-year warranty. Alongside this, we also have a dedicated in-house technical support team that is on-hand through both phone and email to assist you with any problems both before and post-sale.
As the DTC1250e is targeted towards first-time users and those with a low printing volume, the printer is designed to be easy to learn and effortless to use. The easy-to-use all-in-one ribbon cassettes saves valuable time and keep printing downtime to the bare minimum.

There is an option to add an iCLASS SE® encoder to the DTC1250e, which allows the printer to be compatible with the HID secure identity ecosystem meaning critical information can be stored on the card. The following encoding options available with this machine include:
Please note that the above options are all optional upgrades and do not come as standard.
The DTC1250e is a direct-to-card (DTC) plastic card printer that uses dye sublimation printing method. Like most printers in the industry, the DTC1250e prints at the standard 300dpi. It’s available as a single and dual-sided model and prints both full-colour and single-colour cards.
Like nearly every ID card printer on the market, the DTC1250e accepts CR80 sized cards. It also takes CR79 adhesive backed cards. Regarding card thicknesses, the printer can print cards with a depth of 9mil to 40mil.
In one hour, the DTC1250e can print 225 full-colour cards. That’s approximately just 16 seconds for each card. Printing a single-colour monochrome card takes only six seconds, while a monochrome and overlay card prints in eight seconds and a full-colour dual-sided card takes 24 seconds.
Like most printers in this range, the DTC1250e comes as standard with USB. However, an Ethernet connection is an optional add-on. But, unlike most printers that are currently in its range, this DTC printer also has the option to add Wi-Fi connectivity. An optional Wi-Fi® accessory is also available to help the user print anytime, anywhere.
The majority of printers in this class work with both Microsoft Windows and Mac, this printer is no different. It works with Windows® XP, Vista™ (32 bit & 64 bit), Server 2003 & 2008, Windows® 7, Windows® 8 (32 bit & 64 bit) and MAC OS X 10.5, 10.6, 10.7, 10.8, 10.9.
The base model of the DTC1250e ID card printer is 22cm in height, 34cm in width, and 20cm in length.
The DTC1250e carries a simple, modern, and minimalistic look. It doesn’t have a screen and instead opts for a simple two-button system. The input hopper is stylishly placed at the side of the printer, while the output hopper is slightly hidden at the other side of the printer.

Our verdict is to award the printer 3.5 stars out of 5. The DTC1250e delivers excellent print quality, but its downfall is the lack of additional card security options, compared to similar models in the direct-to-card range. If you’re looking to print a very basic design to the card and are budget conscious, then this is a machine to consider. We would also like to see the output card hopper increased to match that of the input hopper, allowing you to save additional time and printer longer batches at a time.
