Fargo C50 Product Review
Affordable and easy to use, the Fargo C50 plastic ID card printer is perfect for businesses that require a simple yet secure printer with no training necessary and no additional software is even needed. Best used for personalised ID cards for memberships and loyalty cards, the C50 can be out of the box and ready to go in minutes. Its practicality and readiness for use does not mean it compromises on price as the resin thermal transfer printing creates high-quality, vibrant photo ID cards.
The Fargo C50 uses dye sublimation and resin thermal transfer printing combined with a resolution of 300dpi. This creates sharp, vibrant images to ensure each print is of the highest quality. As well as this, the C50 is an edge-to-edge printer, meaning a thin white border is left around the edge of the card.
Complete with a two-year warranty on both the printer and printhead, there is also the option of an unlimited pass with UltraCard.
With the printer ribbon and card cleaning cartridge combined in one, the ribbon loading process is simplified as the cleaning roller is automatically replaced with each ribbon change. As well as this, the simple guide will help ensure you are fluent in all functions, enabling you to make the most out of your printer.
Using the step-by-step guide, the C50 can be set up in minutes, ensuring no time is wasted so you can start printing straight away. If there is anything you need more assistance with, expert online and phone support is on-hand to help.
As it was launched in 2014, the C50 lacks any security, due to printers at the time not having to comply with GDPR rules. If you are looking for a more secure Fargo printer, we recommend the HDP5000 Retransfer ID Card Printer due to its focus on security.
It can be customised to suit you. With the additional options of dual-sided printing, magnetic stripe encoding or contact chip encoding, it can be personalised to suit your businesses’ needs and to progress as you progress.
The Fargo C50 is a simplex printer, meaning it prints directly onto a single side of a card. The print from the colour ribbon is transferred directly onto the card through heat from the print head. As well as this, it covers edge-to-edge, so a thin whiteboard is visible around the outside of the card.
The C50 can print into CR-80 AND CR-79 adhesive back cards.
Best designed for businesses with a smaller demand for ID cards, based on a 35-hour working week, the C50 can produce 5,250 full-colour (YMCKO) cards a week.
The C50 prints one full-colour (YMCKO) card in 24 seconds or 150 full-colour (YMCKO) cards in an hour.
With its smart design, the simplicity of the C50 means it does what you want it to do. Including SwiftID uses your web browser to help you create custom badge designs without an additional printer driver. It is also available with USB or Ethernet connectivity so you can connect to both a network and a single desktop.
Standard USB/Ethernet ports and the browser-based Printer Manager helps you integrate printers into third-party applications as well as existing systems.
Designed to fit neatly onto any desk, the Fargo C50 is compact and light to ensure it doesn’t take up too much space. It’s exact dimensions are; 224 mm (H) x 348 mm (W) x 201 mm (D) and it weighs 3.4kg.
In shades of pale grey, this gives it a sophisticated look and ensures it is suited to all office environments. It’s simple look also reflects its ease of use.
We have decided to award the Fargo C50, three and a half stars out of five.
With its quick, easy setup, C50 is the perfect printer for beginners wanting a simple printer to get them started. But not only is it easy to use, its resolution of 300dpi means images will always be of the highest-quality.
If your business is ready to move up to the next stage and go for a more advanced printer, we recommend the IDP Smart 51 due to its increased print speed of 10% and enhanced print quality by using Enhanced FINE™ Imaging.
