Like all Fargo ID card printers, the setup process of the DTC5500LMX is easy to do and can be completed in a matter of minutes, following the helpful instructions which can be found inside the box.
Security was top of the agenda when HID Fargo was designing and developing this machine. Card locking hoppers ensure cards cannot be removed if its left unattended and the consumable door on the front of the printer is also lockable, so ribbons cannot be tampered with or removed. This is extremely efftive as the data you add to a printed card is left as trail on the ribbon, so ensuring this remains secure is paramount.
In terms of visual card security, the user has the choice of three PolyGuard™ LMX overlaminates, which are available in clear, holographic, and custom holographic.
The holographic laminate provides a globe image which is then laminated directly onto the card.
The custom holographic laminate allows a unique image or logo to be added to the surface of each card, which makes spotting cloned cards easier, and the clear overlaminate provides the card with a transparent protective layer.
The following encoding options are available with this machine, ISO magnetic stripe encoder, HID Prox, iClass, MIFARE/DESFire contact smart card encoder, HID iClass SE, iClass, MIFARE/DESFire and HID Prox encodery.
This printer is a dual-sided, direct-to-card model that has been built on the success of the popular Fargo DTC550 model. The machine uses a dye-sublimation print method and prints to the industry standard of 300dpi, with dual-sided lamination coming as standard.
A new feature from HID is the waste-less PolyGuard™ LMX overlaminates. The DTC5500LMX printer reduces consumable costs by up to 50%.
The new consumable design will drive savings in high-volume printing environments. Alongside the cost savings, the waste-less patches have rounded corners, by utilising round corners the result is a card coverage of 95.5%, compared to 88% coverage of competing products.
The machine ensures full over-the-edge card coverage, and prints to CR80 (credit card) sized cards, PVC, PET, and a range of access control cards are all compatible with this printer. If you're printing to a contact, contactless, technology or proximity card and require more information, please give our team a call directly to ensure your desired card is compatible with this machine.
The DTC5500LMX has been designed for speed and meeting the demands of high-volume issuance. The new iON technology allows the printer to reach the optimal operating temperature in as little as 45 seconds. Based on in-house tests it takes approximately 16 seconds to print a full-colour YMCKO card and only six seconds for a one-colour monochrome card.
Another great feature on print speed is the dual-sided laminator warms up in less than one minute, reducing printing downtime.
A single wire Ethernet and USB 2.0 interface come as standard.
The operating system is an important feature to take note of when purchasing a printer. The machine is compatible with Windows® 7, 8 and 10 (32 bit & 64 bit), Windows Server 2003, 2008, 2012 MAC OS X 10.5, 10.6, 10.7, 10.8, 10.9, 10.10, 10.11. The DTC5500LMX was released to the UK market in 2017, this rugged, yet stylish printer wouldn’t look out of place in any professional office space.
